Perl Las (Blue Pearl) is a fabulous blue cheese made by Carwyn Adams of Caws Canerth at Glyneithinog, near Cardigan, West Wales.
This family cheesemaking business was started by Carwyns parents Thelma and Gwynfor as a result of the introduction of milk quotas in 1987, which affected the price of milk. Rather than shut down their dairy entirely, they diversified into cheesemaking, which turned out to be a huge success.
This fabulous Welsh blue, is strong but delicate and creamy with lovely lingering blue overtones.
We like to enjoy this cheese on a crisp cracker with a glass of Tawny Port.
